This is a seriously cool organization. Not only is Page 15 doing truly innovative literacy work in the Orlando community, it is founded by one of the most genuine and fun people you could ever hope to meet, Julia Young. Page 15 is also the ONLY youth-centric nonprofit that I know of that deftly leverages SARCASM as a trademark of their brand identity. (Gotta love a smart as$). I linked up with Page 15 after volunteering to lead one of their young children's summer writing camps. After meeting Julia and her staff, I was hooked (No, literally! It was a Pirate-themed camp. I actually went home with a hook!). Turned out that Page 15 was doing great in general but needed some help with marketing and development. (Well, what do you know? I just happen to do marketing and development.)
This org's in-house team needed no help with overall identity; their branding is killer. Where they pull me in is to help with long-term strategy, task break down, and grant writing. To date, I've fine-tuned some of Page 15's brand language and successfully wrote and won their first grant. I've also helped them set some proactive grant seeking goals and helped identify other strategic marketing and development projects, plus volunteered to help teach two additional youth writing camps.
As for my FAVORITE Page 15 moment, hands down it was watching Julia's face light up when she read the grant narrative I drafted on their behalf. She said: "Wow! You make us sound so AMAZING! I didn't even realize how much we were doing or how awesome we were until I heard it articulated like this!" ...(Nice!)
